Versailles Taj-Mahal

Les Belles Lettres

Creation of a drawing and a cover for the book Versailles Meets the Taj Mahal by Faith E. Beasley, published by Les Belles Lettres.

This work, the result of twenty-five years of research and reflection, highlights the many traces left by India on the culture and mindset of 17th-century France, whether in literature, philosophy, theology, political thought, or even fashion and architecture. Far from the dominant representations inherited from 19th-century "Orientalism" imbued with colonialism, it reveals a France deeply admiring of India, its craftsmanship, its wealth, the diversity of its society, and the religious tolerance of its rulers.
