Valenciennes
Stamp — La Poste
On October 11, 2021, the Post Office issues a stamp with an attached vignette and a LISA on the occasion of the 94th congress of the French Federation of Philatelic Associations which will take place in Valenciennes.
The stamp is illustrated by the town hall of Valenciennes and the vignette by the statue of Watteau made by Carpeaux. The outlines of the sheet take up the inscriptions present on the belfry "La Valenciennes".
Located in the heart of Europe, Valenciennes is the city center of the 3rd agglomeration of Hauts-de-France. This sub-prefecture of the Nord department offers the advantages of a large agglomeration and the quality of life of cities on a human scale. The city of Valenciennes draws from its history and the vitality of its inhabitants a desire to move forward, which has enabled it to sustainably enhance its living environment, to grow and to position itself in numerous economic projects, thus strengthening its attractiveness. Known as the Athens of the North, Valenciennes is also a city of art and history, very committed to preserving and transmitting its cultural heritage, which is made up of emblematic places and artists. It promotes culture with first-rate cultural infrastructures. During the urban renovation projects, many sculptures have been placed in the city's neighborhoods, such as the Jacques Chirac garden, the Prix de Rome park, a tribute to the many artists from the city. Valenciennes is a young and attractive city and its dynamism is also expressed in its commitment to the almost 600 cultural, sports and leisure associations that the town has, and also in the recurrent events that it offers all year round to its inhabitants. It is in this context that it has always supported the Stamp Festival, organized every year in Valenciennes and which inevitably finds a large audience!
