Editorial illustrations for Le Monde – “History and Heritage” series
Creation of three editorial illustrations for Le Monde, a leading French newspaper, as part of the mini-series “History, a cultural battle” published in the Culture section.
This commission is part of a broader practice in editorial illustration, combining narrative illustration, historical illustration and conceptual illustration, and addressing contemporary issues related to heritage, collective memory and their political use.
The illustrations accompany articles by Roxana Azimi and Laurent Telo, focusing on three major projects:
• Ancient Béziers – A large-scale historical and touristic reconstruction project led by Robert Ménard, at the intersection of heritage promotion and political strategy.
• The Gergovie plateau – A planned Gaulish heritage park initiated by Laurent Wauquiez, highlighting tensions between cultural ambition, national identity and administrative realities.
• Rocher Mistral in La Barben – A historical theme park set within a medieval castle, at the center of public debate and local electoral issues.
Through this series, I developed a contemporary editorial illustration approach, combining visual research, strong composition and critical interpretation, in order to create images that are both informative, symbolic and engaging.
These illustrations are part of my professional practice as an illustrator for press and publishing, with a particular focus on visual storytelling, clarity of message and strong graphic impact.
