Le Figaro
The Figaro Group commissioned me to create ten original illustrations to open a special issue of Le Figaro Hors-Série, dedicated to the two hundredth anniversary of the newspaper.
Founded in 1826, Le Figaro has spanned the centuries while accompanying the political, cultural, and intellectual history of France. Initially a satirical weekly inspired by the character of Beaumarchais, irreverent, sharp, and free, it gradually became a leading national opinion daily, a privileged witness to the upheavals of the country and of the wider world.
The ten drawings I created retrace key moments in the history of the newspaper. They evoke decisive episodes in which Le Figaro stood at the heart of debates, crises, transformations, and major chapters of French history. Each illustration functions as a visual opening, inviting the reader to enter a specific era, context, and atmosphere.
Conceived as a journey through time, these drawings seek to capture the spirit of the newspaper in each period: its freedom of tone, its intellectual engagement, and its ability to observe, question, and narrate the world. Balancing collective memory with a contemporary perspective, they accompany this anniversary issue celebrating two centuries of journalism, ideas, and history.
